An airport in France is experimenting with "virtual" boarding agents in a bid to jazz up its terminals with 21st century avatars who always smile, don't need breaks and never go on strike.
Project at Paris Orly airport begin last month and so far has caused confusion and surprise of passengers who often try to touch virtually staff and start a conversation. Virtual staff is responsible to direct passengers to the gate for boarding.
Virtual staff occurs when a human member of airport staff pressed the button and mark the start of boarding. It is projected the silhouette of the human form made of Plexiglas. Previously, three human members of staff the airport recorded in the studio to create the illusion. Airport Authority hopes that this way travelers better understand the instructions but to read the electronic screen.
The idea of a hologram on the staff was reviewed earlier this year with the aim to modernize the second largest airport in Paris. Of technologies developed by "L'Oeil du Chat," reported AP.
